Split a PDF
Write every page of a PDF to a separate, predictably named file.
No installation needed
Use this tool in your browser. The split runs entirely in the page, so your PDF never leaves the browser tab.
Basic usage
consultchimps pdf split report.pdfWithout an output option, pages are written beside the input:
report-pages/
├── report-page-001.pdf
├── report-page-002.pdf
└── report-page-003.pdfPage numbers are zero-padded to at least three digits so alphabetical and page order stay aligned.
Choose the destination and prefix
consultchimps pdf split report.pdf \
--output outputs/exhibits \
--prefix exhibitThis writes exhibit-page-001.pdf, exhibit-page-002.pdf, and so on.
Existing files
The operation checks every planned output before writing the first page. If any target already exists, it stops without partially replacing the set.
Pass --force only when replacement is intentional:
consultchimps pdf split report.pdf \
--output outputs/exhibits \
--forceTypeScript API
import { splitPdf } from "@consultchimps/pdf";
const result = await splitPdf({
input: "report.pdf",
outputDirectory: "outputs/pages",
filenamePrefix: "report",
});
for (const artifact of result.artifacts) {
console.log(artifact.path);
}The operation returns the number of pages and output files in result.metrics.
