Unprotect an Excel workbook
Remove ordinary worksheet and workbook-structure protection locally from an Excel workbook.
Excel unprotect
Use this tool in your browser. Processing stays on your machine; nothing is uploaded and the original workbook is not changed.
The tool removes ordinary worksheet (sheetProtection) and workbook-structure
(workbookProtection) protection from .xlsx and .xlsm OOXML workbooks
without needing the protection password. Formulas, formatting, hidden sheets,
metadata, relationships, and VBA content are preserved as package parts.
Office files encrypted or password-required to open are not supported. This is not password cracking or encryption bypass.
consultchimps sheets unprotect protected.xlsx --output unprotected.xlsxIf you name the output .xlsx or .xlsm, the extension has to match the
workbook's type: an ordinary workbook stays .xlsx and a macro-enabled workbook
stays .xlsm. A name that claims the wrong one of the two is refused before
anything is written, because a package whose contents and name disagree is one
Excel opens with a corruption warning.
Inspect a workbook
Report a workbook's worksheets, header rows, Excel Tables, named ranges, and sample column values without creating anything.
What the Excel operations preserve
A checked, structure-by-structure map of what splitting, merging, inspecting, and unprotecting a workbook keeps, changes, removes, or leaves for you to review.
