ConsultChimps

Agent skills

Add the ConsultChimps skills to a repository so coding agents use the CLI and follow the deliverable standards.

ConsultChimps publishes four skills in the Agent Skills format. An agent such as Claude Code or Codex reads each skill's description and loads the skill when a task matches it.

SkillUse it for
use-consultchimpsRunning the CLI: invocation, --json output, refusals, errors
chimps-xlsxConsolidating, merging, splitting, and inspecting workbooks
chimps-excel-design-skillBuilding a new client-facing workbook to a stated standard
chimps-html-design-skillBuilding a self-contained HTML report, dashboard, or one-pager

The first two drive the CLI, so they need an agent with a terminal. The two design skills need no install and work in chat apps too.

Add the skills to a repository

Run the skills CLI from the repository root:

npx skills add consultchimps/consultchimps

It lists the four skills, asks which ones and which agents to install them for, and writes them into the project. Commit the result so everyone working in the repository gets the same skills.

To skip the prompts, name the skills and agents:

npx skills add consultchimps/consultchimps --list
npx skills add consultchimps/consultchimps --skill use-consultchimps --skill chimps-xlsx
npx skills add consultchimps/consultchimps --skill '*' -a claude-code -a codex -y

Add -g to install for your user account across every project instead of one repository, and --copy where symlinks are not supported.

Keep them current

npx skills list
npx skills update
npx skills remove chimps-xlsx

The CLI skills name the ConsultChimps version they were checked against, 0.13.1 today. A later CLI keeps working with them.

Point the project at the skills

An agent only sees a skill's description until it decides to load it. A line in the repository's AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md makes the choice easier:

Use the ConsultChimps skills for Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF work.

Use a design skill in a chat app

Zip the skill's folder so the folder is the root of the archive, for example chimps-html-design-skill.zip holding chimps-html-design-skill/SKILL.md and its assets/ and references/. Upload it under Skills in the ChatGPT or Claude settings. The source is in skills/ on GitHub.
